Biography

Tom is an experienced chartered accountant with 10 years of experience working across a variety of industries in New Zealand. He leads Grant Thornton New Zealand’s virtual asset offering and has extensive sector specific experience through managing the Liquidation of Cryptopia Limited and Digital asset exchange limited (Trading as “DASSET”) two local Cryptocurrency exchanges. Outside of New Zealand he is also involved as an advisor to the joint provisional liquidators of the Bermudian exchange, Bittrex Global (Bermuda) ltd. Experiences with virtual assets includes tracing cryptocurrencies through multiple exchanges, recovering assets, and supporting the filing of legal actions in various jurisdictions. Through this experience, he has developed a keen curiosity and knowledge of virtual assets and distributed ledger technology. Tom’s Crypto-specific qualifications include being a Certified Bitcoin Professional (CBP) and Certified Ethereum Professional (CEP) and a Cryptocurrency Tracing Certified Examiner (CTCE).

Biography

Scott is a leading litigation and insolvency lawyer. Since David Perry's retirement, Scott assumes the 'elder statesman' role in the firm's insolvency practice. Scott has been practising insolvency law for longer than he cares to admit, during which time he has been involved in a number of major matters, including the Cryptopia liquidation.

Bridie has broad experience in litigation, arbitration and mediation, in New Zealand and internationally. She has particular experience in insolvency including priority disputes and enforcement issues, banking, shareholder disputes, and contractual claims. She has worked on several significant insolvencies in recent years, including the liquidations of Cryptopia, the Tamarind Taranaki joint venture companies, and CBL Insurance.

David has over 20 years’ experience in the New Zealand and Australian markets in providing business advisory and insolvency services across a variety of industries in New Zealand. David heads up our Financial Services Team specialising in providing advisory services ranging from litigation support and review engagements to liquidations, receiverships, voluntary administrations and investigations and regularly reviews strategy documents and business cases for both private and public sector entities. Currently, Liquidator of Cryptopia Limited, the New Zealand Cryptocurrency exchange. This Liquidation has included obtaining one of the first judgments in the common law world that confirmed Cryptocurrency can possess traditional property rights including the ability to be held in trust.
